Park City or Jackson Hole?

I haven't been to either. Can you compare/contrast the two? We have two high school aged children, we'll be skiing/snowboarding, but would like other winter activities as well.

Also, if you have any hotel, restaurant, shopping recommendations, etc, we would really appreciate that! (Mid/high level hotel budget around $300/night)

Thanks so much!

Pretty much night and day difference. Jackson Hole is a big aggressive mountain. While it has runs for everyone, it's definitely a mountain that will test the best. While the resort has its own base area with lodging, restaurants, etc., it's a good distance from the town of Jackson.

Park City offers you three world class resorts (no snowboarding at Deer Valley). Both Park City Mountain Resort and Canyons Resort are amazing mountains with great diversity for all levels. PCMR is located right in town, Canyons just a short free shuttle away. Both have their own base areas.

Depending on time of year, $300 is going to put you in low to middle price range. Won't generally put you right at the mountain but you can get something decent in close proximity.

You will find significantly more activities in Park City than Jackson. It will also be a ton easier to get to from LA.

Have fun.

The Tetons are arguably the most beautiful mountain range in the country. Jackson has the reputation of being one of the most challenging ski resorts in North America with very steep terrain and lots of vertical drop. Jackson is also very expensive to get to. Either you must spend a ton on airfare or rent a car and drive 5 hours from Salt Lake. The town of Jackson is 20 minutes from the ski resort. Grand Targhee is about an hour away from Jackson and will have smaller crowds on the slopes.

Park City is less than 45 minutes from Salt Lake's airport and has three ski resorts within seven miles. The terrain may not be as challenging, but still has its fair share of steeps, bowls, and chutes. All of the resorts have excellent intermediate and beginning terrain. Tons of things to do in Park City outside of skiing from a bobsled run at Utah Olympic Park to the Alpine Coaster at PCMR to zip lines at The Canyons to snowmobile rides to cross country skiing and tubing at Soldier Hollow. Might want to try VRBO or browse through TA accommodation listings to look at lodging options for the specific time you are thinking of arriving.
