Park City Christmas 2013 & Snowshoeing

Any suggestions for optimizing our trip and experiences, we will be staying with family near the Olympic Park and will be in Utah from 12/24 thru 1/2, we are somewhat experienced at "flatland" snowshoe treks, but would be interested in any suggestions for some spectacular scenery that we can hike into. Any suggestions for nightlife and enjoying our time in Park City would be greatly appreciated.Thank's

All Seasons is a great all purpose activity company that can help you with snowshoeing. Also checkout White Pine Touring for snowshoe rentals. Checkout trails at mountaintrails.org. Lots of flat options in the trail network all along state route 224. Rob's Trail is in Bear Hollow, near where you're staying. While it's not flat, it's very easy and a popular winter hiking and showshoe destination. For a bit more adventure, take the free bus up to Empire Pass and snowshoe up the closed road. Pretty easy mile or two to the top then easy ridgeline showshoe. Fun adventure and very do-able.

Also, on Dec. 28-29 weekend the Olympic Trials for ski jumping will be taking place at the UOP. Free event and lots of activities planned around it.

Have fun.

I am also coming to Park City 12/27 - 1/3, wanted some advise on snowmobiling, skiing, and horseback riding and getting around the area. We plan to go down to Midway to Solider Hollow, will a FWD rental be ok during this time. Didn't know how well the roads are maintained during the winter months. The Olympic Trials sound very interesting at the UOP, my kids will most definitely want to attend that. What are the snow conditions usually during this time. Also, what about any New Year Eve events? I heard that one of the resort does a huge fireworks display, ect.....

Hi dmeridethjr, welcome to the forum. You might want to post separately to get the best response as it's a slightly different topic. Couple points. You should be fine with a FWD car unless there's heavy snow, in which case you're better not traveling. But it would be highly unusual to have a problem getting to Soldier Hollow as you're traveling on all main roads.

Have fun.
