peak time for photographing fall aspens

My son in law and I plan a trip to Park City this fall during the times when the aspens are at their peak in that area...Empire Canyon and Cottonwood Canyon and other spots in that area. I am an advanced amature photogropher. It has been my great desire to capture their grandure.

Late September/early October is best. Empire and Guardsman Pass are spectacular, as is the Alpine Loop down by Sundance. Mirror Lake Highway is good from Kamas out about 20 miles, then you run out of trees.

Here's a link to some fall foliage photographs. You can check actual image date to get a sense of timing. It does vary widely. Last fall was earlier than usual. Last few years have been very long spans of color. Some years are short. Hard to predict. But if you shoot for late September you should be good.

Have fun.
