Park City Mountain Resort or Deer Valley

Still trying to figure out where to stay on our trip to PC, family of 4 with a 7 and 10 year old, would like to ski at both Deer Valley and PCMR, which one would be better to stay at?? We have never been to either, is one better for skiing than another? Which is better for families? Might do ski school one day but not sure.

Both are great ski areas. Deer Valley is considered the more "upscale" resort, however that doesn't mean PCMR is a dump. The ski school at Deer Valley is very respected, but PCMR has smaller class sizes. Really, both are good options. I would base my decision on budget.

Both are great resorts. A middle of the road option might be staying in downtown Park City where you can take the Town Lift up to PCMR and a 5-10 minute free bus to DV. Marriott Summit Watch is a good choice with easy walking distance to restaurants.

If you want to stay right at a resort, PCMR does offer a bit more dining options around the resort plaza than DV. Look at Marriott Mountainside. The Lodges is a good economical option at DV but not ski in/out.

Have fun.

Hi read your comments here and would like help. Have ski'ed whistler , big white, lake Louis , sunshine and last year steamboat. Want to do new resorts. From Australia and here good things about DV and others. 2 families going and both intermediate skiers ( oldies ) and young adults in 20's black runs and looking for a bit life at night in restaurants etc. any other suggestions of other resorts in northern USA welcomed.

Stayed usually ski in / ski out - is that an option and in good resorts - any suggestions from anyone. Stayed at Pan Pacific mountainside last time in whistler - awesome and Stonebridge resort condo's in Big White also good and both 4/ 5 star.

North Carolina you can stay anywhere as long as its in the bus line and close to a stop. I like DV better, everything is just nicer and no snowboards. Australia if you are looking for night life then vail has more of what you are looking for. PC is not compact like whistler were everything is walking distance. PC will give you more skiable acres with 3 resorts next to each other and 4 more less then a hour drive

Paul, have to disagree with San Antonio, while not Las Vegas New York Sydney London or Tokyo, there is plenty of nightlife in Park City, from the No Name Salon where you will find everyone from ski bums to millionaires all hanging out together, to more nightclub type venues such as Park City Live (http://parkcitylive.net/). And majority all on Main Street, just walk up and down the street.

Check out the Snowmamas blog here:http://www.parkcitymountain.com/site/snowmamas

It's sponsored by Park City Mountain, but the information isn't specific to the resort, it's a bunch of parents who have volunteered to help other parents who are planning trips with kids to the Park City area. Their info is great. I live about an hour away, but their info has helped me with day-trips to Park City as well as kid-friendly places to eat, lodging and entertainment options for weekend stays in the area.
