Which one?

I realise you need to win the lottery to enable entry to Coyote Buttes but as both the North and South look remarkable I am a bit at a loss at which one to apply for. The Wave looks amazing but I have read some articles that say the South is better. What are the recommendations?

I think south is better only because you might actually be able to see it. I haven't been to south, but hear it is wonderful. But the Wave is one of a kind. I don't think you'd go wrong either way. Though I do think you need some 4x4 vehicle to manage the roads into the best of the south buttes.

Why not go for both of them. If you have the time, that is. It's really hard to say, one is better than the other. Both are great. The south is much bigger with 2 sections. Paw Hole and Cottonwood Cove. You will need high clearance 4WD, sand driving skills, and route finding skills to see the south. You hike from the Wire pass parking lot for the North (Wave). Good Luck!!!
