Busiest period of the year. Be sure to be up around the San Fernando commercial centre area on the evening of Jan 5th for the 3 kings procession. It's simply fantastic. Streets are lined with kids with their families all waiting with their letters for their Xmas presents to pass on, it really is magical. The biggest parade is up in the city of Las Palmas however other towns and villages also have their own versions including San Fernando just at the top end of Playa del Ingles. Most processions are themed too Disney etc brief description here:- grancanaria.com/patronato_turismo/…

We have been for the past four years. The period leading up to Christmas can be quiet, although still lively enough, but from about December 27th it gets much busier as people come down for New Year. From then on it is peak season for tourism.

You don't need to go to San Fernando for Three Kings as they make their way down Avda Tirajana as far as the Yumbo.

For New Years Eve the best place is the Yumbo Centrum which has a good firework display although as the crisis threatens almost everything here it may be a bit shorter than usual, but the atmosphere is good, relaxed and friendly.

San Fernando is most definately the place to head for as that's where the locals live and the atmoshere is far more superior than further down Ave Tirajana where holidaymakers and ex-pats are in the majority. The faces and excitement of the local kids that live in and around San Fernando is a joy to behold. To see the parade gather before starting off on it's route head for the football stadium.

Yes. And I completely disagree with Mondeo about going up to San Fernanado. Perfectly good of course but no better than anywhere on the route and the spectators even around the Yumbo are mostly Spanish.

What date and time does this normally start?

We are staying at the sunprime atlantic suites & spa hotel in PI, where would be easiest place for us to watch, maybe have drink too. Thanks for advice x

You are not far from Avda Tirajana which is the route the procession takes so almost anywhere really. I would go along to the Riu Don Miguel or to the next roundabout and watch there. It will be a little more crowded than staying on the side of the Avenida but the extra atmosphere is worth it and then you are a hop and a skip to the Yumbo where there are bars galore.

timing is usually about 5 to 6 p.m. but the tourist office and your reception will have up to date info.

Thanks for the hints n tips, looking forward to spending NY 2014 there now. I've never been this time of year, whats the weather normally like ?

We spent last few year's in Sharm El Sheikh but was quite cool last year, hence the change this year.

Cheers Ann

Bit late to revive this but the weather is ward in the day (Around 22/23) but cooler at night (around 15/16). Although last year on NYE it was about 13c BBrrrrrrrrrrrr

You soon warm up though in the crowds and once your beer/wine/vodka coat is on.

Once you have been away for NYE you will never stay in the UK for that period ever again....
