Consider going to mid-town (just outside of downtown). There are some nice restaurants and bars there -- easy to walk around (more neighborhood-like feel). Don't know what it's like on a Sunday night, but since there are condos/townhouses right there, I imagine stuff is open. Of course, there's always the Galleria area (huge shopping mall) -- plenty of restaurants and bars in that area (Westheimer and Richmond).

Downtown - try Sambuca or the Red Cat Jazz Cafe (guess it still there - Red Cat that is).

Don't do the Richmond strip - young kids hangout. Do downtown or midtown. More refined.

Midtown on Sunday night is a bit quiet. I'd recommend the Galleria area instead. The weather will be hit-or-miss, probably on the cool side, so walking outside will be bearable for your guests (compared to mid-July or August). If you come after Thanksgiving, the Galleria area will be decorated for Christmas and the PostOak/Westheimer blocks across from the Galleria will have a very festive and fun feel to it. It'll be fun to walk around from your hotel (if you decide to stay in this area). There are also lots of restaurants in the area. Don't know about any jazz/piano bars though, sorry.

You can have dinner & music at Red Cat & Sambuca - here is a link for both - maybe you can see the music line-up for the nights you plan to be in town.

Sambuca is very nice and well-established. Go to bottom and click on Houston (there are Sambucas in several cities)

In Midtown, within the same block, there's Julia's Bistro or Monica Pope's T'afia. There's also Sig's Lagoon and then at the very end The Continental Club. These are just off the Ensemble/HCC MetroRail stop. Also, Vietnamese food is quite popular in the area, with Mai's being real close to that same block.
