We vist Nashville several times a year and find most places downtown are not expensive. Depending on your taste you will find many very good places to eat that are not expensive within walking distance.

for Nashville

There are lots of restaurants along Broadway between 1st and 4th ave, as well as along 2nd and 3rd ave. Like AKDreaming said, most of them are not too expensive. You can also take a cab up to Music Circle (Demonbreun & 16th) or all along West End Ave between about 18th and Centennial Park. The restaurants in that area cater mainly to college students. One of our favorite cheap places to east is Calypso Cafe on Elliston Place near Centennial Park.

Right outside of Nashville-15 minutes...is the Cool Springs area. It has a ton of restaurants to eat at. Royal Thai is a fantastic restaurant (even if the thought of eating Thai food scares you, they have plates that aren't so Thai;). Atlanta Bread Company is great and a unique place to go is called Genghis Grill. The Franklin/Cool Springs area has great shopping and food. Downtown Franklin is awesome. Obviously, this is not downtown Nashville, but if you'd like to go somewhere a little outside of Nashville...that is where I would go:) Hope you have fun.
