First time in Ireland needing help with Itinerary and route

We would appreciate help with our Itinerary and route information. I have done a lot of reading both on the internet, tripadvisor forums, and books , so I have an idea of what we would enjoy while in Ireland, but am at a loss making an itinerary and route

this is workable.

We are arriving and departing from Dublin in April 2013 . We are attending a wedding celebration in Adare for three days in the middle of our 12 day trip which includes the arrival and departure day in essence giving us 10 full days i.e. Arriving late afternoon Dublin , using that evening for a nice dinner. Starting out the next day gives us 4 days prior to arriving in Adare, then our 3 days for the wedding and then 3 days afterwards before returning to Dublin for a flight the next morning.

Initial thoughts are for two nights in Dublin and one night at the end of the trip., This will coincide with our car rental, picking it up as we depart Dublin and then returning the car to Dublin prior to our next day flight. Lots of information on TA for stuff Dublin, so no worries on that part. It's the rest of the trip I'm looking for assistance

With that said, I have done some research on place of interest but do not know the distance and routes that make sense for the amount of time we have and not wanting to rush through the beautiful countryside. Our goal is to savoring the Ireland experience, the people and just have fun, as that is what

retirement is all about.

Would love to stay in a Castle overnight for a special anniversary splurge along the route. Place of interest are Doolin, Kerry ,Dingle , Killarney, Clare, Galway for the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren, Waterford, Ring of Kerry

Thanking TA people in advance for any assistance in helping us with a possible itinerary, route and time distances.

You could a bit of Kerry (Killarney, Dingle etc) in the few days before the wedding. Ballyseede Castle near Tralee might meet your needs

How long a drive from Dublin. To Kerry and then to Adare

Thank you for your suggestion. I will check out the castle too. Really appreciate your time to reply. To me

Assuming you base yourself in Killarney (a good base for Dingle, Ring of Kerry, National Park etc), the drive from Dublin is about 4 hours, (you will pass through Adare en route).

Killarney to Adare is a litlle over 1.5 hours

This has been a useful tool in helping me determine routes and travel times from place to place. I've read here though that you need to add time (maybe 20% - can't remember) to what is suggested on this website. We leave in a week for our trip, so I can't provide you with any personal experience.

I like soonas' recommendation of basing yourselves in Killarney prior to Adare for a few days. There's plenty to see in/around Killarney: Gap of Dunloe, which you can explore on foot or by horse 'n carriage; Muckross House and Gardens from which there is a pleasant walk near the lake to Torc Waterfall; Killarney National Park if you're interested in hiking/walking/horse riding.

I'm tempted to recommend a night on Dingle peninsula (at least 1 night!!) in the town in order to enjoy the many pubs and excellent restaurants in Dingle. My favourite guest house has to be Pax, which is a 10-15 minute walk from town, along a quiet country lane. Just had my 4th stay there :-)

If you're interested in Irish crystal, you can visit Dingle Crystal on Green Street; Sean trained at Waterford Crystal.

After Adare, recommend you head to co. Clare for a few days to explore the Burren region, visit the Cliffs of Moher. Don't stay in Galway city - you'll be back-tracking to the Burren, and it makes for a long drive.

Have a look at Ballyvaughan village, which has a good range of accommodation from simple b&b to high standard guest house, and also Gregan's Castle Hotel (which isn't actually a castle). There are several pubs in the village, plus couple of restaurants, too.

Nearby lies Aillwee Cave and Burren Birds of Prey, which my children Love to visit. If you want to do something very special, consider a Hawk Walk:

Information on the Burren:

From west Clare you can drive via Kinvara and Kilcolgan to pick up the motorway just east of Galway city. To break up the journey back to Dublin, you could stop at Clonmacnoise if you're interested in this type of historic site:
