Knoxville tips for first time visitor - July

Hi, I'll be in Knoxville for the first time soon - and am really looking forward to it. I am looking for very reasonably priced accommodation for two weeks and I wondered, if we stay in the western part of town (where the b&bs seem to be located), there is a bus which we can take which will get us easily and quickly to the university campus? Failing that a reasonably priced motel. I've been looking on various sites and just need to book it now but also watching the pennies quite closely!

After Knoxville we want to spend a couple weeks exploring Tennessee or parts of North / South Carolina / Louisiana before ending up in Georgia - and really don't know the area so would appreciate some local knowledge and tips ...

Will be using Megabus at some point too though have seen posts about the greyhound bus station but the Megabus station is a different one right? and safe?

Is there a place in town to hire bicycles for 2 weeks?

Will it be quite humid and hot in July?

Thank you!

There are a lot of options between Tennessee, NC, SC, Georgia and Louisiana. What are your interests? Cities, art, local appalachian culture, civil war, B&Bs, hiking, biking? Combining TN, SC, NC and GA will be easy, Louisiana would be a side trip and a long day away by car or bus so unless you have a specific target in mind, you may want to consider keeping your visit to the 4 state area. There are bike rentals in the area, what kind of biking do you want to do? Some greenway bike paths in the area and a couple of local mountain biking trails, but not every street is bike friendly in Knoxvile - be sure to check that out. The Great Smoky Mountain National Park is within an hour's drive from Knoxville - several local tour buses provide transporation or rent a car. Definitely worth spending some of your time in the Park. Chattanooga, Atlanta, Asheville, Nashville - all popular destinations within 2 - 4 hours from Knoxville and all offer something different. Yes, most likely will be warm and humid in July. Avg temperatures 67 - 88 degrees (F), humidity between 55 and 95 %. July is also the month with highest rainfall, almost 6 inches on average - a lot of that is from thunderstorms, so plan on a day or two with some rain.
