Went out west in late August. Day 1- flew into Denver and drove to Cheyenne. Day 2- drove from Cheyenne arriving in Rapid City. On way to RC we stopped in Newcastle,Wyo museum,Custer State Park and Mt Rushmore ,in addtion to, viewing several historic makers. BTW, most of those small towns along the way have free museums if you have extra time. Day 3 - Wall Drug,Wounded Knee Museum, Badlands Natl Park,Minute Man Missile site and bunker,Presidents display in downtown RC. Day 4- Deadwood and attractions, Booth Fishery Museum in Spearfish(well worth the drive),and Sturgis. Make sure you take the scenic highway route from RC to Deadwood and from Deadwood to Spearfish. Day 4 - Thunder Mine tour and ziplining in Keystone, Mt Rushmore again(walked the President's Trail and visited with Nick Clifton,one of the original Mt Rushmore construction workers, in the gift shop),Crazy Horse monument and drove to Cheyenne. Day 5 - Wyoming State Capital,Wyoming State Museum and drove to Laramie to see the U of Wyoming. Day 6- Wyoming State Territorial Prison and drove to Denver to catch late afternnon flight home.
