Oysters in October

I've read that local oysters will be in season in October. Where is a good place to try them? Somewhere kid friendly and reasonably priced .

We've had good oysters at the Bimini Oyster Bar in Myrtle Beach.

Just so you're not disappointed... Local oysters are "cluster" oysters. They're smaller and harvested in clusters, almost always steamed and served in the cooking pots. They're a little saltier and have a distinctive flavor. We luv 'em. If you order half-shell, rockefeller, etc, you will be getting Gulf oysters, not locals.

Nance's in Murrells Inlet is a popular place to get them. They have their own leased oyster beds in the Inlet behind their restaurant. We usually end up at Hanser House in Pawleys Island for ours. They usually get their local oysters from McClellanville, a little further South of MB. It's the same variety of cluster oysters, just not as susceptible to temporary oyster bed closings due to rainwater runoffs.

Russell's and Inlet, both in Murrell's, are also terrific.
