Making a change this year

We have been renting either a house or a condo in the Myrtle Beach area for years. I thought that we ight stay in the Charleston area this year instead. I have been to College of Charleston and loved the area. Can anyone recommend a area to stay that has beaches, restaurants and things to do ? I love a house with a private pool. Would want to be able to visit Charleston too.

Thank you very much!!

Isle of Palms or Folly are both great beaches close to Charleston. Also consider Kiawah and Seabrook, both a little further out.

Depending upon your budget and your preferences for surroundings, try Folly Beach (funky old beach town), or Isle of Palms (Wild Dunes Resort is at one end of this island), which are each about 20 mins. from Charleston.

Kiawah and Seabrook are each about 45 mins. from Charleston, are green and more upscale w/lots of biking, kayaking, etc. Kiawah has 10 miles of uninterrupted, bikeable beach.

The Isle of Palms has about 5,000 year round residents and numerous condos and homes to rent. Wild Dunes is a gated community on one end of the island. There are a few restaurants on the island, not much shopping. Sullivan's Island is 10 min away with several good restaurants, primarily a residential island, does have some homes to rent. The Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island are more upscale than Folly Beach. Mt. Pleasant is in between IOP/Sullivan's and the historic downtown. Mt. Pleasant will have movie theaters, shopping, restaurants, Patriot's Point and more.

The very best upscale restaurants are in historic downtown, along with most of the historic homes and sites to visit. The plantations are in outlying areas, most are roughly half an hour from downtown.
