Where to get great seafood?

Vacationing on Fripp in April and would like to have at least one classic low country seafood meal. Doesn't have to be upscale and in fact a local "hole in the wall" kind of place would fit the bill. Will be bringing my Dad, who is the subject of this search for the best "fried platter of fish" around and kids. We don't mind driving up to 30 min in order to find the right place. Recommendations?

Hi happytravel,

I highly recommend Dockside either on Lady's Island or in Port Royal. Both are about 25-30 minutes away from Fripp. Johnson Creek Tavern has been hit or miss in recent years. For lunch (not for dinner though), Boondocks, Gullah Grub, or Shrimp Shack are reasonable places.

Dockside has a great whole fried flounder.....think the dish is called Crispy Scored Flounder. It's not a hole in the wall.....big place that sits on the water.

Boondocks - doesn't look like much, but a local place with good food.

Dockside great. Can be crowded. Take-out easy. Love shrimp and grits!
