Folley Beach Front and Town

We have never traveled to SC and we were looking for a beach town that has small quaint shops.

We were wondering if Folley had rental homes on the beach or are they all the condos/hotels/homes in walking distance.

Looking to travel in August 2 adults with 2 kids (10 and 13 years old).

Thanks for your help.

Folly is approx. 7 miles long by 1 mile wide at the widest point. There is only 1 hotel, many condos and homes to rent. No high rise buildings of any sort. There are some shops and restaurants, I would not qualify it as "quaint shopping". Some of the rental properties are walking distance to restaurants, etc , many are not. (Folly, not Folley~common mistake)

The Isle of Palms on the other side of Charleston is similar, a little more upscale, 6 miles by .5 mile, no high rises, 3 hotels, many homes, some condos, 5,000 permanent year round residents, gated community of Wild Dunes on one end of the island.

Folly is an old-timey local beach - and popular weekend destination - for urban and suburban Charleston. Folly offers casual restaurants and bars, a few shops (more funky than quaint), an iconic fishing pier, great views from Folly's far east end of Morris Island Lighthouse and the entry to Charleston harbor, a good surfing beach, and vacation rentals of all shapes, sizes, ages, and quality levels.

We just returned from our first stay on Folly. There are rental homes that are ocean side, ocean view, and river side. Our group had a lovely ocean side home on west Ashley (screen porch and private beach access) and a river side home at the end of 9th street. It was about a mile to Center Street, walkable by the older kids and an easy golf cart ride for the younger ones. The restaurants are very nice but I wouldn't describe the shopping as quaint. Fun shops, but very beachy/touristy.

We had a great week and have reserved the same houses for next year.

Can you tell me where you rented the ocean side house from and the name of it? Thanks!

Keep in mind that schools in SC go back like mid August so prices drop a little the end of the month rather than the early part of the month.

HI.

We are coming back to Folly for a second time and we have rented a house from local agents http://www.fredhollandrealty.com. and another from http://www.homeaway.co.uk.

We have had good service from both and they have a large selection of properties to choose from
