Suggestions on beaches and things to do with young toddler

I am looking for suggestions on things to see and do when we travel to Charleston in mid-July. We stopped there briefly in 2012 but did not get to do too much except a Harbor Cruise. We will now have a rambunctious 17 month old but still want to take in the sights of a place we fell in love with. We would like to do the Eco Tour, the Harbor Cruise again, visit some Plantations and visit the big ships and tour that. We also want to spend some time at the beach but not too sure which one is most family friendly. We would love some input and suggestions on the best things to see and do with a toddler. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We researched quite a bit but hearing from anyone seems to help out more. Thanks

Any of our beaches are family friendly, no problems in the Charleston area. What it really comes down to is how close you want to be to the city, how much you want to spend and how green of an area do you want to stay in.

Folly, Sullivan's and Isle of Palms ($-$$$) are about 20 mins. from the Historic District (pending traffic). Kiawah and Seabrook ($$$) are about 45 minutes.

Folly is a funky, old beach town w/bars and tee shirt shops.

Sullivans and IOP have small commercial areas, with a few restaurants, not as lively as Folly.

Kiawah and Seabrook are more green, Kiawah being the greenest, with 25+ miles of bike trail and 10 miles of bikeable beach...that little one may really like biking (mom or dad doing the driving, of course).

What a wonderful and helpful response! The biking sounds perfect. Nice and relaxing and she loves bike rides here in Ohio so doing that on the beach will make so many wonderful memories. Thank you for the description of the beaches. It has really helped narrow the area we would like to stay near. We are looking for something laid back so your input has really helped! Thank you so much! ♡ The Schmidt Family

If you have not already, check out the Which Beach is Best topic under the Top Questions About Charleston. That will help you compare the beaches.

Do you plan to stay in a hotel or rent a condo? Sullivan's Island does not have a hotel & only 1 small condo building that is not near the ocean. Folly has 1 hotel & iop has 3, each of them have many condos & homes to rent. I would suggest either IOP or Folly, both are family friendly, but do not have anything like amusement parks, mini golf, etc.
