Historic District

I will be staying 2 nights and one day. Any suggestions for a central location for the historic district? I will be walking and I'm intrested in architecture, not shopping.Would the French Quarter be a good choice?

Yes. French Quarter Inn is excellent, as are Mills House, Days Inn, and BW King Charles.

Before I moved here, but was regularly vacationing in the area, we found & loved the B&B at 36 Meeting Street. If you are truly into architecture you might want to check there for availability. It is a historic home & they have a carriage house out back with multiple bed accommodations. The owners can normally be persuaded to give you a tour and it's only about 2 blocks down from Mills House. This B&B won't offer the same level of modern convenience of those suggested before (which are great, esp. Mills House), but if offers plenty of charm & character.

The French Quarter Inn is extremely well located for your purposes. However, given your interest in architecture, you might enjoy a bed and breakfast located in one of the historic district's lovely old homes.

Here are a two marvelous examples:

There are many more. Some have their own websites, while some do not. You can read reviews for many of Charleston's lovely b&bs and get contact information on TripAdvisor - tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g54171-c2-Charleston_…
