Lodging in December

Although originally my husband and I were searching for beach lodging, we decided that since we're only going to have 3-4 days in Charleston (and neither of us have been there), we would like to be in the heart of everything, and see as much as we can. We're looking for a nice, though not expensive, place -preferably not a typical hotel, etc. Perhaps a historic inn or B+B that is kid friendly (for our 2 year old) and close to neat stuff. We also love to do lots of walking. Suggestions?

Check the link, for Charleston B&B's, on TA -

The bed and breakfast places are charming, but a hotel might accommodate your family more comfortably. The Mills House (a Holiday Inn) is a beautiful, centrally located hotel. The Holiday Inn Historic District is a bit further from the heart of the area where you will do most of your walking, but it gets great reviews.

If you decide to consider beach accommodations, look at The Waters Edge Inn on Folly Beach, which is about 20 minutes from downtown.
