My husband and I will be visiting Pittsburgh in June for the PGA in Oakmont, PA. There is little left in terms of finding a reasonable hotel, but we've managed to reserve rooms in both Monroeville and Downtown Pittsburgh (Springhill Suites). They are both about 14 miles (approx. 25 mins) from Oakmont (according to MapQuest), but this will be our first time in Pittsburgh so I'm not sure if it's really better to stay downtown or stay in Monroeville (the later of which I'm not sure has any great restaurants, etc.).
So, does anyone have some advice for a gal who isn't from that state? Is the traffic bad leaving downtown and hence, maybe Monroeville is better? Are there attractions in Monroeville? Or is donwtown so incredible that we shouldn't pass up the oppty to stay there? Thanks for any suggestions you can give.
