old resort - Striklands

Does anyone know if Striklands is still a resort in the Poconos or has it been bought out by another company. I am trying to set up a second honeymoon for my parents who are about to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

Wow, so many wonderful memories! My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Stricklands from January 1st -7th 1968. We remember Chase very well, along with the hypnotist who was also a Mayor. There are three couples we would love to hear from that were also there at the same time. Unfortunately some names are forgotten. First, Scott & Kathy from CT; March & Jane, I forget where he was from but he did graduate from West Point, and another couple we had every meal with in the dining room who always insisted on having five glasses of milk at every meal. If your out there, e-mail us at odiejoy710@msn. We would love to share old memories.

I'm reading this in 2013 and hope you will get my reply. The man with the goatee that you refer to was named "Chase". He was a character, and was a fun person. We honeymooned there in 1973.

The person you are referring to with the goatee who was the entertainment director was named "Chase". He was quite a character. We honeymooned there in 1973.

Sorry to disagree but "Chase" was his name.....I verified that with the other couple we met there.

I have fond memories of your Father...Have a slide of him recoiling in terror when he fired a cannon at the pistol range. He was such a character. Sorry to hear of his demise....and great to hear from you.

Really sad to find out that stricklands is gone I worked there as a waitress there in 1988 and 1989 I also lived up by the Hawthorne inn. On the right side up the hill it was like a dorm. It had 7 rooms and 2 bathrooms at the end of the rooms.I still remember my section I worked in the dining room it was called swiftwater it consisted of 7 tables which seated 2 people each table. All were either newlyweds or people celebrating there anniversary.

We spent our honeymoon there is 1992... For some odd reason I was compelled to see if it was still there.. I am so saddened to see that it is not. I can't help feeling that for whatever reason, this was such a mistake and somebody ..somehow..should have kept this place alive. When we went there it was not our first choice..we had actually reserved Poconos gardens... we got there and one look of that room was disturbing..We asked to be changed and were given Stricklands. We couldn't have been more pleased...Knowing what I know now...I can see why Poconos gardens was on the downhill, Stricklands at the time..was better but only a matter of time before it too became uninhabitable due to inattention and lack of funds by the owners..

But I will tell you that in August of 1992..we had the best time...the food was great, the people there were great and the grounds were beautiful. We had nothing to complain about. All I can say is that it is so sad that we cannot return for a 25th.. We really though this was a gem, so close to home and to be able to drive to.. Such a shame that nobody that could have revived this thought the same. RIP Stricklands and all the great USA places that offer good old fashioned fun!

Can someone tell me exactly where Strickland's was ? I know where Mt. Airy Casino is but I don't remember exactly where Strickland's was. I want to go back even if the building aren't there - just to look. Is it on 611 ? On or off of Woodland ? Exactly where ?
