old resort - Striklands

Does anyone know if Striklands is still a resort in the Poconos or has it been bought out by another company. I am trying to set up a second honeymoon for my parents who are about to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

I did a bit of looking around, because I remember having neighbors that used to go there. The Stricklands was purchased in the 1980's by its neighbor, The Mount Airy Lodge. That resort folded under a mountain of debt in 2001.

What became of the property after that I don't know. Here is a link to the info I did find.

Maybe it will lead you to further info. I assume the location was purchased by another resort since then, however, if it remains or was demolished for new construction, I don't know.

Sorry to say, but the Stricklands is not there anymore. My husband and I always stay at Cesaer's Paradise Stream, which is not far from there, and we took a ride to see Mt. Airy Lodge, which has been completely demolished and all contents auctioned off (it must have been something to see in it's day). Anyway, Stricklands was on the same road as Mt. Airy. About 10 years ago or so, there were parts of building left, but everything is gone now.

Actually, the person who responded on May, 2005 was incorrect. Until just this year, 2007, Strickland's was still standing - all the buildings. My husband and I spent out honeymoon there in 1976 and went for our 20th anniversary in 1996. The writing was on the wall then - it was in disrepair - leaky ceilings, etc. For our 25th, we stayed at The Summit, up the road from Strickland's - which was closed by then in 2001. For our 30th - which was last October, 2006, we stayed at Penn Hills - which is in poor shape, too. But we road by Strickland's and took pictures. We just got back today from a 5 day stay w/friends in Paradise Falls and the buildings have all been knocked down just this year. I was sad to hear it - it was a wonderful place in it's hey-day.

Your best bet is to stay at any of the Ceasers Resorts, Paradise Stream, Cove Haven or Pocono Palace. I have been to Penn Hills and it was a total dump. Ceasers always updates their rooms and resort and is very nice.

Does anybody have directions to the Strickland's? I found the Pocono Garden Lodge. I can not remember where it is.

Wow so sad to year that Stricklands was demolished, We

honetmooned there in'81, and loved it. We went back a couple of times in mid 80's. What I would'nt give to go back for our 30th anniversary. To stay at the 'special skytop chalet' in all its tacky velour grandeor. and then off to the 'mountain ledge' nightclub for a cocktail, and a slow dance. PLease wake me I'm dreaming.

Yes, it's a shame to hear about Strickland's end. My wife and I were hoping to go their this year for our 30th. In 1979, we stayed in one of the Hilltop Chalets with the sunken heart-shaped tub, fireplace and balcony. It was #200, 201 or 202. I forget exactly which one. Our waitress was great. One night when I could not decide between two entrees, she brought me one of each. The nightclub scene in "Charade" reminds me of the games we played in Stricklands' nightclub. It's been thirty years but we still have the memories, thank god!
