Ski resort...

We are looking to ski the week after Christmas in the area and are needing some advice on where is the best place for us. We learned last Christmas in Colorado but have family in the PA area so are looking to spend Christmas with family and then do some skiing before we head back to Texas.

First of all is this the right forum?

Where are the best places to ski for intermediate/blue runs? least crowded?

Where is the best place to stay? We would like our own kitchen and hot tub. We aren't really interested in night life or gambling.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

www.skibluemt.com - has long trails, beautiful location, just north of Allentown.

www.snomtn.com/ - just outside of Scranton. My favorite because I grew up skiing there.

First PA skiing is totally different than Colorado. Runs are way shorter, elevation is way lower, snow is harder and heavier. Most Pocono places are similar in size and type of runs(nearly all beginner and intermediate). Snow can be hit or miss that time of year and will determine how crowded it is. Camelback and Montage are a couple more, but you might want to choose based on other factors such as what accommodation deals you can get and anything else that you would want to do like tubing or whatever.

Not sure if you realize how big of an area the poconos encompass, but there are hundreds of hotels, inns, and B&B's that we can't really say which is best. There are so many factors like closeness to slopes, price-range, view, etc that you need to do some research on your own.

As already mentioned, Blue Mt & Mt Snow are very decent PA mountains but not in the heart of the Poconos. Blue Mt is a very friendly family resort & one of our favorites when my kids were young since its off the beaten track of the Poconos. Camelback is decent as well & located in the heart of the Poconos. I would stay away from Shawnee since its the first mountain in the Poconos & closest to NJ & NY and can get really crowded. Not that the others won't at that time. Weather can be a hit or miss for good slope conditions at that time and we do tend to get ice.

Sorry, really don't have any recommendations for lodging but the Camelback area should have a decent supply.

Good luck.
