The Homestead is on a road that connects busy PA RT 30 with the quite RT 340 that goes through Bird-in-hand and other Amish delights. While it is not close to Lancaster, it is in a very good location between Strasburg (outlet shopping) and the Amish areas of Lancaster county. Other nice accomadations in that area include the Smoketown Motor Lodge, Mill Stream Country Inn

I stay at the Bird in Hand Family Inn or Greystone Manor in Bird in Hand when I go. You may want to check them out. They are in Lancaster Co. near most attractions.

I had lunch at HF Inn just last week after touring The Amish Village, which is nearby. After a wonderful lunch, we crossed the street and rode a buggy at Ed's Buggy Rides and moved on to the Strasburgh Railroad Station for a train ride. Everything was close by - we even stopped at the outlets on the way back to our hotel. I have printed information on HF Restaurant and Inn and plan to stay there on my next visit to Lancaster.

Good Luck!!!

I hope I am not too late to be of help to you, but for what it is worth, I just got home today from spending six nights at Homestead Lodging, located in Smoketown, which is in Lancaster County off of route 896 in the heart of the Amish Country. Very convenient location!!! The innkeepers were kind, efficient and most hospitable. I added two days on to my original reservation B-4 I came, so I had to change rooms and can vouch for the fact that both rooms I had were clean, nicely decorated and well maintained. Room service was quick and efficient. Breakfast is a choice of several pastries, almost all home made by the wife of the couple who owns the lodge. She provides the pastries on a counter with coffee and water. Also tea bags are available and a microwave if you want to heat your pastry or heat water for tea. Breakfast is served from 7:30-10:00 A. M. and you take the food/coffee to your room. I liked it a/c there was no waiting around the way you have to do sometimes for hotel breakfasts. You could get the breakfast when you wanted it. You weren't locked into a specific time to eat. Plenty of information is available for area attractions. Parking is free and available right on the property. I was made to feel very welcome. I highly recommend this lodge!

In my previous report about Homestead Lodging which I submitted just a few minutes ago, I intended to say that the lodge is located ON Route 896--NOT off of it. It is on route 896 between Route 30 (Lincoln Highway) and the Philadelphia Pike! Sorry!
