Where to go other than the pearl district area

We stayed at the inn at Northrop station on our last trip to Portland and thought we would do something different. Any suggestions for a couple days in different areas of the city. We are open to all kinds of activities from sporting events, nature, the arts...thx

You could stay at Edgefield in Troutdale and explore the Gorge. You could stay at the Kennedy School and explore the Alberta area.

Also SE Portland, Hawthorne, Division, Belmont. The East Side in general has a somewhat different character.

But if I wanted to explore the Gorge, I'd go straight to Skamania Lodge or somewhere in Hood River, so as not to have to deal with the drive, even from Edgefield. Edgefield (IMHO) is either its own destination or best avoided, according to one's tastes.

Likely, Edgefield is booked. they usually book early in the year. But they are there for you next year if you can't get in this year. Skamania is across a toll bridge (Bridge of the Gods), and maybe Best Western Hood River in Hood River. Hood river is a cool river town in the Gorge. Watch the Windsurfers in the river or even take a lesson!

Or do you prefer the Portland edge areas?

Thanks for everyone's responses. This gives us a better idea of the area as we are not familiar with it so much. May just pass through Portland and stay more in the Gorge area. Looks like some very cool places.

Sadly there is no hotels in the Pearl District, but there is currently construction underway for the first.

Here is the surrounding area accommodations, though:

Pearlhelp is a Pearl District website.
