Cannon Beach Lodging & Long Weekend Getaway Advice?

Hello, Need to go to Portland on business for a couple of days in mid-May--and a few people suggested we make a vacation out of it & go to Cannon Beach as well.

For anyone who's been to Cannon Beach recently, is mid-May an okay time to visit? Any recommendations on where to eat, what to do, and/or where to hike?

Also, any recommendations on lodging would be most appreciated....it coincides w/our wedding anniversary. Thank You!

Hello Rebel traveler

And welcome to TA.

The coast will likely be chilly but pretty.

Our summer really starts in July.

There are other things to do if you would rather do something in Portland or nearby. It's still enough to make it a vacation.

We head over to Cannon Beach all different times of the year. We were just there a couple weeks ago and had fantastic weather. Our summers usually start July 5th, which is a local joke;) But you never know when you will get great weather. Don't worry if it is raining, as it is still worth it, IMO.

That said, our favorite place to stay in CB is the Surfsand Resort. It is family friendly, but right on the beach and the rooms are very nice. We have been going there for years. Next door to it is the Cannon Beach Hotel which is very nice too, but only has around 10 rooms or so. Most rooms there do not have ocean views, but a few do. We have stayed there too and enjoyed it. I can recommend a few others places we have stayed if you want, but these would be my two top picks for you.

Castaway's Tini Tiki Hut is a nice place to eat in Cannon Beach. What is your nightly budget for lodging? :)

Like Mtngrl, my wife and I can be just as happy in a place like Cannon Beach Hotel, but we'd be neglectful not mentioning Stephanie Inn if you're celebrating a special occasion. Or, you could choose a cozy room or cabin at Sea Sprite at Haystack Rock, next door. Completely different experience from what you'd have at Stephanie Inn, but the same spectacular views.

Another out-of-the-box special occasion kind of experience would be one of the Dinner Shows at EVOO. We've done several over the years; wonderful the first time, and they seem to have just gotten better each time since. http://evoo.biz/

Some other good places to eat: The Wayfarer, Bistro, Pizza a Feta, Mo's (pretty views), Driftwood Inn and Fishes. :).
