June itinerary

We are planning a long weekend in June, renting a car, and staying downtown

We are arriving Wednesday nite

Thursday...explore city

Friday...Columbia gorge drive, stopping at the falls, hood river, etc

Saturday...wine tasting in wilamette valley

Sunday...leave

Is this doable? Any suggestions?

Totally doable. Looks like a great trip. If you want to give yourself an extra day in Portland there are wineries around Hood River so you could combine those activities.

When in June? The Rose Festival is in early June and attracts huge crowds - book your lodging well ahead.

Hi Lara,

Do plan to dress in layers, as our summer "starts July 5th" and it maybe cool in the Gorge.

You will see beautiful wildflowers in bloom and full waterfalls.

Have fun planning your trip.

One suggestion:

Bonneville Dam. On your way to Hood River, take a look at this. They have a viewing window for fish migrating up-river, and depending on the time of year, there can be salmon, steelhead, or other fish going by the window. Also, just the story of how this dam was built is fascinating to me.

There is also a pond with GIANT sturgeon that you can view.

;P The Sturgeon mentioned is named Herman. Our resident sturgeon. They are prehistoric fish.

By the time you get here, the Historic Columbia River Highway will be reopened. You can get a view of lots of waterfalls an end up in the Multnomah Falls parking lot. Go into the Visitor Information center there and trained volunteers who can hlep you plan your time in the Gorge.

Sounds fun! Where are you staying? Have fun wine tasting, there is some amazing Pinot Noir in this area. Archery Summit, Domaine Serene, Domaine Drouhin are a few places you will want to visit.

For some great meals in this area consider: Jory @ The Allison Inn & Spa, Red Hills Provencial Dining and Dundee Bistro. Happy Travels! :)
