Hello everyone,

I will be traveling to Portland in August. We will spend 4 days in Portland and then spend the last 3 days on the coast. We should not need a car in Portland, so I was thinking of renting a car the day that we are leaving Portland to go to Cannon Beach. We will definitely need a car to get there! Any recommendations on where to rent a car and the location in Portland would be appreciated. We are staying at the Embassy Suites Downtown.

Thanks!

We had the hotel we stayed in (Monaco) arrange the car, they dropped it off and picked it up at the hotel.

It was Enterprise I think. Prices were very reasonable.

Ask the Embassy Suites to do it for you..it should be easy.

I did not even think about that! So, instead of making the reservations ahead of time, I should ask them if they can reserve a car for us for the day we check out? Then, the car is brought to the hotel?

lol, I don't know, where have you been?

My husband is the one who always says, let the hotel do it.

And they almost always will do it .

The Monaco has fabulous service and a great concierge so they will run to the store for you etc... I am sure Embassy Suites has a connection with the car rental people, most hotels do.

You can email them now and ask if this is possible, just to be sure.. or call the toll free number.

Just a couple comments....

One of Oregon's big draws is the Columbia River Gorge; great scenery, waterfalls, hiking, and all that. If you haven't seen it, you should. The west end of the Gorge is about 30 minutes from Portland though, so you'll need a car.

Also, assuming you'll be returning the car at the airport, check to see if there's a fee for the different drop location. I don't imagine it would be much, but maybe enough that you would instead ride MAX out to the airport to pick up the car.

Enterprise is one car rental place that will even deliver a car to your home address. Very convenient!

Have you actually had them do that? When I have used them, they have come to my house to pick me up and take me to their nearest location to get the car. The car has never been brought to my home. I have a corporate account with them, but haven't needed to rent a car, in Portland, for about two years. Perhaps they have changed the way they are doing this.
