My husband and I are traveling to Portland for 4 nights for a convention the first week of November. Then we are staying an extra 4 nights/5 days to explore the surrounding area. I have been reading alot about the coast but am wondering if it will still be worth focusing on in early November. We live in Florida but obviously that is an entirely different kind of coast and would love to spend time on Oregon's coast. We also like the mountains. I'm trying to figure out how to make the most of our time in the context of November, but not go overboard and get some relaxation in too. Right now I am leaning toward spending 2 nights in Cannon Beach and then 2 nights further south, before we take our time driving the last day back to Portland to fly out that evening. Don't want to miss the Columbia River Gorge but am thinking I can sneak that in sometime during our stay in Portland. Are the 4 nights on the coast the best bet, or should we try something like 2 nights on the coast and 2 nights in the mountains to the east of Portland? We will be mostly looking for scenery, wildlife, maybe some mild hikes. Thanks!
