Pacific City, Oregon lodging |
|
We (3 to 5 adults) are thinking about going to Pacific City this summer for a few days and would like some info about the motels in the city other than the Inn at Cape Kiwanda. Specifically, the Inn at Pacific City and Anchorage. I read on one of these forums that a new resort was being built across from the Inn at Cape Kiwanda. Does anyone know if it will be ready this summer and what is the name of it? We are looking for a clean inexpensive place to stay for the night since we will be spending most of the time with family members who are renting a house. Last time we were at Pacific City (10 years ago) we fell in love with the Grateful Bread but not much else. |

I have stayed at the Innat Pacific City- clean, recently updated, inexpensive & a pretty good continental breakfast. The owners were very nice-I stayed when they had just bought the business about 2 years ago. So I don't know if the owners are still as involved as they once were. You will see a BIG change from 10 years ago in PC. Greatful Bread is still there-and still good. Also might want to check out The Riverhouse Restauarant. I had the best restaurant prepared Chinook Salmon there ever-but that was awhile ago. Don't think the 'resort' will be built by this summer- it is owned by the same company that owns "inn at cape Kiwanda' along with 75% of the town(Pelican Pub, Shorepine village, etc). I am personally boycotting this company as it's new 'resort' is built right on the sand dunes(I don't know how they got the permits for that one) and is creating a monopoly in PC-as it is pretty much the only game(lodging, eating, etc) in town. Sorry I had to rant on your posting,I'm getting to be too much of an old timer. But you'll still have fun at PC!!!

Wow... when they were there last fall I didn't realize there was such a monopoly. Since we rented a house we were pretty self-sufficient (groceries from the store up on the highway, and fresh seafood from the local fishermen & crabbers). I heard the Pelican is great but we didn't try it. We really liked the beach, and it was fun to watch the surfers.

I think there is a little confusion on the name of the motel...the one that was updated a couple of years ago is the Pacific City Inn...not the Inn at Pacific City. It's very confusing! By the way, the Inn at Pacific City is now also owned by the same monopoly group that Chinookgirrrrrl was talking about. That motel is older and has not been updated for a long time.

We have stayed in the houses at Shorepine Village several times, and love them. They are very cute, quaint and tastefully decorated. Stocked with everything you could think of, except, of coarse, food and personal items. I did notice when I went to rent a house for this summer, that their rates have gone up, but still much cheaper than a hotel room at most Oregon coastal towns. The Inn at Cape Kiwanda is very expensive, in my opinion, especially given the fact that you aren't even beach front. I think they are able to charge these rates because there aren't many options in town. Pacific City is a quiet, quirky town, that as of yet, isn't overly commercialized.

From what I heard, and I don't know if this is even true, that new resort is on hold indefinitely due to slow sales of the new timeshares there on the dune. If you saw how much they were asking for a 1/13 share of those places, you'd understand why sales are so slow.

I used to stay at the Anchorage quite often, and could not recommend it more. It is quiet, clean, and family owned. There were almost always fresh flowers in our room from the owner's garden, and each room is decorated differently. While not deluxe accomadations by any means, for the money I would highly recommend them.
