Central coast September

3 adults and 2 dogs traveling to central Oregon Coast and using Seal Rock as a base. Must do's? Good walks? Day trips? Is Tillamook and back in one day too far? What is best "pass" to purchase for parking in state parks etc.

Thanks all, I know, lots of questions.

You can get to Tillamook in a day from Seal Rock. You can also go south as far as maybe Bandon. Though lot to do in Newport, Depoe Bay area

Cape Lookout State Park is not to miss in the Tillamook area if you go there. Enjoy the coast! :)

Seal Rock to Tillamook is about 2 hours one way. There are many nice state parks within easy reach! Yachats has the 804 trail which is an oceanfront level footpath.

The Oregon Coast Passport will cover lots of parks:

Be sure you check the tide tables for low tides. State Park at Seal Rock has some of the best tidepools. And several times we have seen State Parks naturalist there and get some good help.

If the cheese factory is the reason for Tillamook, you might consider Face Rock Creamery in Bandon instead. It's about a 1/2 longer drive, but the scenery along the way is better, and Bandon and its surrounding beaches have a lot more to offer than the dairy farming community of Tillamook. Besides that, you can buy Tillamook cheese and ice cream in most grocery stores.

Other things to consider:

- Cape Perpetua, where you'll find a couple big-bang-for-the-buck hikes/walks;

- Haceta Head Lighthouse, one of the most photographed scenes in Oregon;

- Oregon Dunes, especially if you think you'd enjoy a dune buggy ride.

We were just lucky enough to have spent 5 nights in Newport at the Shilo Inn, which accepts dogs, & had a great time there. Lots of places nearby to go rock hounding on the beaches. We found some agates & a clam fossil. Look up Mike at Rooster's Rocks in the Aquarium Village for a ton of information on the local rocks. He is extremely knowledgable!

We also got to blow our own glass floats at Oregon Coast Glass Works. The owner, Robin, & her husband are very nice & very talented. It was great fun!!

We spent the night in Depoe Bay last week at The Whale Cove Inn. Restaurant Beck and Tidal Raves are two very good places to dine in this area. :)
