Lodging/location/activities recommendation

So. Cal. family with two teenagers interested in experiencing So. Oregon. Prefer nice lake/river, lodging on the water and water activities. Recommendations on where where to stay that is set among trees and not in town/highway. If there is a must-see location, we are open to that. Which lake is more swimmable...Crater or Klammath? Thanks for any and all input!

Seems to me that Lake of the Woods would be perfect. Places to camp or bungalows to rent, as well as boats. Store, restaurant & BBQ with live music on Saturday evenings. Can hang out near resort where all the action & people are or hike a short distance & be away from them. Water is very swimmable & location is not far off highway. Could head to Ashland &/or Smith River/OR coast from there. I think Crater Lake is very scenic & exceptionally beautiful, but water itself is not "user friendly". Rocky Point would be another option. The Crystal Wood lodge is great B&B in beautiful setting, access to "canoe trail" & with Iditarod dogs & stories- pet friendly of course.
