Where to stay? On Mt Hood or Hood River

My husband and I will have 3 1/2 days in the area and are having trouble deciding if we should stay on Mount Hood or near the River. We haven't yet set our itinerary for these days but I expect we will be doing mostly hiking and outdoor adventures. Any feedback would be appreciated.

hmmm difficult to advise- if you want to be in a city, Hood River is the place- Government Camp(MT Hood) is pretty small, but does have some ammenities. Probably depends on where you will be doing your outdoor adventures- in the Gorge or on the mountain. Also it will be much warmer in Hood River(80-90s) than Gov. Camp(60s-70s)- assuming this is in the summer.

Hi there,

If you are visiting the CRGNSA, Hood River would be more advisable. You would probably spend more time around the Gorge and it's quite a drive to get to and from Timberline/cabin to Hood River. Plan on at least one dinner at Timberline as it has beautiful sunsets. Hood River is a river town and quite comfortable to be in. The locals and visitors seem to all get along beautifully.

If you are interested in Historical places, call Timberline Lodge and see when a Ranger led tour would be. Timberline is a WPA project during the depression. You will find lots of history and beauty in the CRGNSA.

Have fun, whatever you choose.
