Best Place to Stay in July

We are planning a trip in July, probably over the 4th, and would like some recommendations as best places to stay with a view. Also, what are the must things to see and do.

You may be able to find a BnB, Hood River has several nice ones. We like them as the breakfasts are gourmet and the hosts are knoledgable about the area. Some have suites as well. Many have river views out the windows but are far from the frieght trains that run several times daily. (on both sidesof the river)

Legal,

What kind of lodging are you looking for, and what $$ range? There is everything from the less expensive hotels to suites to historic register places. l would be glad to offer some things if you let me know those details.

You have chosen a great place in the CRGSNA if you are staying in Hood River IMHO.

Many of the places near the river have freight train noise so be sure to read reviews before you choose..

Columbia Gorge Hotel is awesome, but I could have sworn it was closed. When did it open back up? Or was it never closed and I am just losing it?

It did close for awhile, but was reopened by new owners a year or two ago. Can't comment on whether you're losing it or not.

We travel to Hood River often as our daughter lives there. We have stayed in B&B's but now enjoy the Best Western Hood River. It is on the river and if you request and pay for a river view you will have a patio or balcony overlooking the Columbia River. They also have a new pool, a fitness center and an included, and very yummy, breakfast. It runs a bit more than the B&B we used to stay in but I love having the pool in the summer and the fitness center.

We were just at the Best Western and the breakfast was about 8 items and if you wanted other than the 8 items, then you pay the whole price, it's not discounted. I didn't find anything substantial on the free things.

The new back part (that is adult only) is free of train noise but the old part still has train noise.

The price was ok but to not at least discount something from the main menu means they take in a lot of money on regular breakfast items. I felt that was a tad shady.

Things to do - Stop by the visitor center - they have great maps of the area and all kinds of info on area highlights. Drive the Fruit Loop in the Hood River valley (see their website) and stop at some of the wineries, farm stands, and other participants. Drive up to Panorama Point to take in the view. We also recommend the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center just west of The Dalles, and Hood River's history museum. Go up to Timberline Lodge or Cooper Spur Inn on Mount Hood -. The country club in Hood River has a nice reasonably priced restaurant that's open to the public, & good views of the mountain & sunsets from the patio. Even if you don't stay at the local Best Western, their restaurant and bar are very good, and the restaurant has riverside dining.
