What are the trails and falls like right now?

Hi TA friends,

We are thinking about going to Hocking Hills for a few days after Christmas and appreciate your input.

Thanks, alashashttp://www.youtube.com/user/honeymoon2ohio

We'd had lots of rain this week. Wear some good boots. :)

Thanks, Jenny, for your prompt reply! I've been following the weather, and it's still 10 days before we leave. "Lots of rain" sounds like lots of waterfalls! I assume nothing is frozen yet, like it was on our hikes there late last Jan. I wonder how many people will be hiking the trails between Christmas and New Year?

Many blessings, alashas http://www.youtube.com/user/honeymoon2ohio

yep- likely muddy. No snow here and not likely to be. Rain and more rain-- ground is soaked.

Have been mid to late Jan a few times and lots of snow when we were there. Beautiful as long as the roads are clear :) Frozen waterfalls... not so much right now. Mostly mud and browns and grays... not the prettiest time of year, but I'll take it over snow and ice for traveling! It should be pretty quiet.

Keep in mind that just because it's not icey doesn't mean the trails aren't slick. There was a death recently of a young man who fell off a cliff. Remember to always stay on the marked trails!

Thanks for your prompt replies, appreciate as much info as possible as we get closer to Christmas. And so sorry to hear about the recent death at Hocking. According to a news story,18-year-old Purdue University honors student William Beinlich died on Dec. 11 from a head injury. He wandered off a trail and slipped, tumbling 60 feet into a shallow pool at a waterfall. Prayers for him, his family and friends.

Thanks, everyone for your help! We had a wonderful time at Hocking Hills during the week between Christmas and New Year! We had a great stay at Honey Fork Lodge. Clean, spacious, comfortable beds, modern appliances, 2 game rooms in the lower level, including pool table, foosball, air hockey, darts, and a 6 person hot tub that was perfect for relaxing after hours of hiking! Management was great to work with and very helpful in our planning:

We've posted some photos here and will be working on videos this winter:

May you have a blessed new year, alashas

You are welcome, I am very pleased with the quality of the videos we shot at HH and am looking forward to working on them. Hocking Hills is an incredibly enchanting place to visit and we can only imagine what is what like for our ancestors to live there....
