What do you mean by short-term -- days, weeks, months? Do you need to be near a particular location? Do you need a kitchen or have other preferences?

I'm sorry, but I didn't read your original post sufficiently carefully. In the U.S., the month is put first. E.g., 8/6-19, or Aug. 6-19.

You can check out suite hotels, homeaway.com, Craigslist.com, vrbo.com, and click on vacation rentals in the top margin.

If we knew what part of Greater Columbus you would be visiting, perhaps somebody could give you more specific advice.

Good luck!

The Ohio State Fair runs through Aug. 3. If you have some flexibility in your schedule, you might want to arrive earlier so you could see one of the best state fairs in the U.S.

Dayton, OH, is one hour west of Columbus, and is a mecca of aviation history.

The Ohio State Fair is the big summer event in Columbus, but the city also has "Red, White, and Boom," likely the biggest fireworks show and 4th of July celebration in Ohio.

The Fair is held at the Ohio Expo Center, which is an amazing facility with several arenas that host fair events. The fair also features the All-Ohio State Fair Band and All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir, a concert schedule featuring national acts, and many other events.

King's Island is a major thrill park in Mason, OH, just south of Dayton. Cedar Point, in Sandusky, OH, however, has been the top-rated amusement park in the world for over a decade and often is called the roller coaster capital of the world.

The Central Ohio Park System serves Greater Columbus and has some excellent parks, such as Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park, which features a small American Bison (buffalo) herd.

Columbus has an excellent zoo, located in Powell, Ohio.

Easton Town Center is a Midwest shopping mecca and the Polaris Fashion Mall also is a popular shopping destination.

Columbus has a small Cabela's store, often a cultural shock for foreign visitors to the U.S. Wheeling, WV, has a Cabela's super store, an amazing destination even for Americans.

Don't miss trying some Jeni's ice cream while in Columbus. It has been rated as the best artisan ice cream in the U.S. Graeter's French Pot ice cream also is highly rated by ice cream experts.

Check out the Ohio Light Opera in Wooster and the Blossom Music Festival. The former in Wooster features Gilbert & Sullivan and Broadway musicals. The latter features the Cleveland Orchestra, one of the best in the world and associated bands at the Blossom Music Center, located inside the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and perhaps the best summer music venue in the U.S. for classical music.

Also, additionally check out the Mohican Region and Ohio Amish Country in the following travel article.

Cleveland and Cincinnati offer Major League Baseball teams, but Huntington Park in Columbus is an excellent minor league baseball stadium, home of the AAA (highest minor league) Clippers, the top farm club for the Cleveland Indians. The Clippers field a team of professional players, many with major league experience or potential. It would be an excellent place to experience a baseball game.

Cleveland is one of the nation's cultural centers, and, in addition to the Cleveland Orchestra, features the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and PlayhouseSquare, one of the nation's top theater districts. Other unique attractions include the U.S.S. Cod, Steamship Mather, and West Side Market.

Pittsburgh has one of the nation's best botanical gardens and one of the best natural history museums and also has an MLB team. A great attraction in Pittsburgh is taking the Donegal Incline up Mount Washington to see the birth of the Ohio River and one of the nation's best cityscapes. The Ohio River is the greatest tributary of the Mississippi River, and, arguably, it is the upper Mississippi if water volumes are the only consideration.

The Hocking Hills (Logan, OH, TA destination forum) are a popular destination year-round in Ohio.

Chillicothe, south of Columbus, features the Adena Mansion and Gardens, and the long-running "Tecumseh Outdoor Drama."

The Wilds, near Zanesville, is one of the nation's largest animal preservation centers. It's best visited, like a zoo, in the cool of the morning when its animals are more active. It's located near Zanesville, as is the mouth of the Big Muskie, which created The Wilds.
