What to do downtown

Coming in the end of august to celebrate our youngest sister's passage Into her 60s. Going to the rock &roll hall of fame but looking for something else to do. Like shopping but really would prefer local shops to malls. Not sure if we will be there on a Saturday or Sunday. Is anything within walking distance of r&r? Staying in westlake near the mall so want to be on our way back before dark. Thinking of the cuyahoga flea market on either day??...maybe edge water park and the ice cream parlor on the way back to hotel....have been poring over the visitors guide but would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

This travel article may help you out. See the "shopping" section. There are several local stores in the Tremont district (see "Dining" discussion). It's popular for gallery hopping on Sunday afternoons.

I'm not familiar with the Cuyahoga Flea Market or any other flea markets west of Cleveland, but there likely are several.

Perhaps check out the Cleveland National Air Show, if that's an interest. It will take place Labor Day weekend.

5th Street Arcade is downtown with a number of places to shop. There is a Honey Hut Ice Cream at Edgewater if you go. But there's also a place called Sweet Moses Soda Fountain and Treat Shop just a short drive from Edgewater. Mitchell's Ice Cream just opened up a location on W.25th street a couple minutes walk from the West Side Market (would be another good stop). All of this is close to downtown and Edgewater.

Thanks for the advice. I am a big ice cream fan so Sweet Moses was already in the plan and the TA link was very helpful. So many choices...so little time.

Sweet Moses is in the Gordon Square Arts District, which also has some great restaurants, a handful of Cleveland-only boutiques and shops and the Cleveland Public Theatre. I'd recommend Gordon Square as a great destination on your trip between downtown and Westlake.

On your way to or from Michigan, it sounds as if you might enjoy Bead Paradise II in Oberlin.

See "Unique Stores" in this travel article.
