Hotels near I-80

We will be traveling from Phila., PA to Mackinaw City, MI. Usually drive 6-7 hours a day. I understand that might take us near Cleveland and wonder where a good place to stop might be. We do like the Holiday Inn Express but are open to other recommendations. Thanks for your help!

If you want to stay near I-80, check hotels in Streetsboro, which has a Holiday Inn Express. You would be close to Hudson, one of the more charming communities in Greater Cleveland.

If you want to drive further, you could try hotels in the Strongsville area, near Cleveland Hopkins Intl. Airport. Milan would be an even further option, but it is in the Cedar Point lodging market, so hotels there may be very busy, noisy, and more expensive during the Cedar Point season.

Another option is to visit downtown Cleveland. There's a Holiday Inn Express across from the East 4th entertainment/dining district, and a short distance from the new casino.

If interested, take I-77 north into downtown.

From Cleveland, you could take I-90 back to I-80/Ohio Turnpike, or stay on route 2 for a more scenic drive with no tolls.

If you do the latter, take route 2 to I-280 north to I-75, and let us know and we can suggest some highlights if you would like to do a little sight-seeing along route 2, and let us know how much time you would have for such sight-seeing. Route 2 is a four-lane highway until Port Clinton, but the two-lane portion of the route is fairly fast and goes through some great nature preserves.

Good planning!

Thanks for the info. We were originally going to go to Branson, MO but decided that it might be cooler in Mackinaw City and I've always wanted to go there. Our plan is now to stay over one night in OH and travel on to Mackinaw City and the surrounding area. On the way back, we hope it might be cooler in the Cleveland area and we could stay for a few days.

Cleveland isn't as hot this summer as Branson, but it likely will be in the 80s and 90s (this summer) through the third week in August.

Hope you visit the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and cross the Mackinac Bridge into the upper peninsula to see the Soo Locks and possibly Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Have a great trip!

If you visit the Cleveland area, be certain to check out the Holden Arboretum in Kirtland. It's one of the largest and best in the U.S. I remember you don't like to walk a lot, and the arboretum reportedly (please check) offers guided tours in large golf carts. Also Blossom Music Center is one of best summer music venues in the U.S., featuring the world-renown Cleveland Orchestra.

Have you ever checked out Chatauqua in western NY? You might greatly enjoy a stay there.
