CRT questions

We will be heading to CRT for the first time in a couple weeks and I had a few questions:

It seems like most people take private transfers to this resort, I was just wondering what cheaper alternatives there are and if the savings is worth not taking a private transfer?

Will an iPad fit in the safes in the rooms?

I've read on here about barracudas biting people in front of the resort and now I'm paranoid!

Just wondering what the average age of people is at this resort?

Thanks to anyone who can answer any of these! Can't wait for our trip!

You will love CRT! My husband and I have been twice - Nov 2011 & May 2012 and are planning on returning May 2013 for a 3rd trip (9th trip to the Mayan Riviera)

IMO private transfers aren't too pricey... around $150 (CDN/US) round trip. To me it is worth it because you don't have to stop at a bunch of other resorts to drop off others... you just get in an go! Last time we got from the airport to the resort in 45-50 minutes. A couple times we took shared transportation to this area and it was 1.5 - 2 hours long... but there was beer on the bus so that helped...lol!

Yes, an ipad will fit in the safe.

People who feed the fish run the risk of being bitten. My advice is "DO NOT FEED ANY OF THE ANIMALS" (water or land) and you will be fine. You may not want to wear any sparkly jewelry in the water either. There are many TA members that can elaborate on that subject I'm sure!

There is a wide range of ages at this resort so I don't want to give exact ages... we are in our late 30's/early 40's and have met 20's - 70's both times.

Hope my tidbits of info help! Have a great time!!!

We used USA Transfers and can warmly recommend them. Very professional, efficient and not too expensive. Definately worth it - you will save a lot of time and waiting. Think we used around 50 min to CRT. You can check them out here http://www.usa-transfers.com/

Safe: can't remember exactly, but pretty sure it is big enough for an ipad.

Barracudas: we were in the water every day for 2 weeks and never saw one. Didn't hear of any problems with this either. Maybe if you feed the fish... avoid this and you should be just fine.

Average age: I would say a good mix of people between 25-50. Lots of couples, and a lot of Italians.

Great resort, we loved it!! Have a great time.

An ipad will definitely fit into the safe. With a little tilting upon insertion, you can fit a 14" laptop in there.

I've never seen a barracuda in front of the resort in 4 trips. Since the fish feeding has been pretty much stopped, you shouldn't have any issues with barracudas either.

The age range of people has been pretty consistent on all our visits, in the ranges the others mentioned.

We've booked thru expedia the last 2 years and they use best day for their transfers. It was a 10 passenger van both times. On 3 of the 4 legs, we were the only couple in the van. On the return trip last winter, there was one other person. As a comparison to USA transfers, their cost is $49.75pp for the round trip.

We always schedule our arrival flight for 10-10:30am. We always arrive at the resort by 12-12:30. We check in, drop our bags at the registration desk, and go have some lunch. By then, the room is ready.

Have a great time!

4. Re: CRT questions

Thank you so much for your responses!

If we book with USA transfers, will they be holding a sign with our names or how will we know to find them? This is our first time to the Cancun airport and I've read it can get a little crazy, so I want to be prepared!

One other question. I was wondering if they still do massages on the beach near the resort? Does anyone know the cost and if you need to make an appointment?

The Cancun airport is not as crazy as it used to be.

Yes, they still do massages down the beach - $50/hr. Just walk down there to setup a time. Sometimes you can get right in, other times you may have to setup an appt.

We use the transportation provided by Expedia as well....Best Day. Yes, it takes alittle longer, but I sort of enjoy getting a peek at other resorts on the way while dropping off someone. Last trip, there were 3 other couples with us & we made 2 stops, still getting to CRT in about 1.5 hours.

Thanks, I'll have to check that out as well. Do you remember the cost by chance?

If you book with USA transfers ( which I can highly recommend ) , you will see them when you exit the airport , you can't miss them . Just address them , show them your paperwork and they will help you. It won't be a problem locating them.

Yes, USA Transfers will be there waiting for you and holding up a sign with your name on it. They are not allowed inside the airport, but you will see them as soon as you exit. They even asked if we wanted to stop by a grocery store to pick up refreshments on our way which was a nice touch. Great service!

10. Re: CRT questions

rount trip prices:

USA private transfer is $120 for up to 3 people, $135 for up to 7.

Best Day is $49.75/pp

You can go to the USA Transfers site and book online - they've got an easy to use online form

Best Day is much higher ($70/pp) when you go thru their web site than if you book your trip thru Expedia and add on the shuttle service.
