My husband and I are booked for this hotel in March however we get to have a preview in November. We're staying at the Barcelo Tropical/Colonial in November, if we don't like the Sirenis I figure we can always change. We purchased the travel insurance just in case.

I've enjoyed all the discussion on the hotel. Our price is $1464 per person out of Detroit 7 nights Starting March 31. I figure that gives them 9 months to get the kinks out. Last year we stayed at the Grand Occidental and it was beautiful. Disappointing beach but we knew in advance.

Looking forward to actual reports.

dogcrazzie,

We are looking at booking the Sirenis next March or possibly this October as well. I am also a little hesitant about booking too soon before the place is ready. I am hoping they will have good rates just trying to fill the place up when it opens. You will loooove the Barcelo Colonial/Tropical. We stayed on the Tropical side in March 2005 when it just opened and it was fabulous. I say it has one of the very best beach areas. Wonderful snorkeling, nice rooms, good food. Have fun. Let us know if you get a sneak peak at the Sirenis.

Will do! Just got an email from my travel agent and she said the first part of Grand Sirenis is due to open July 26th and the next part in November of 2006. We'll give you an update when we return in November. Thanks

Just booked this place 9/8-15/06. Got a great deal at only $553 a head for the week (through applevactions.com), which is just absurd for a place that looks this nice, IMO. I imagine there might be some kinks that may still need to be worked out, but for that price, I'll deal with them. Besides, from the messages I've read in this topic, it looks like ongoing heavy construction, which was our primary concern, isn't really going to be an issue...

Can't wait to see some reviews after it opens later this month!

Congratulatios to anyone who took advantage of the great deal this resort is offering and if your next trip is to Mexico and you haven't yet then what are you waiting for? Please drop the rest of us a message when all you earily birds get back and let us all know. Still counting down until Feburary.

I just checked the different travel sites and the prices are going up! $150 per person more than when I booked several weeks ago. I guess it had to happen.

erniefireguy I too have seen prices go up on escapes.ca but on the trip taxes I paid $158/person they are now $258/person. So by booking a couple of weeks ago I saved $400.00 for the 4 of us, better in my pocket.

Just to let you all know-on locogringo message boards it was said that Vacationexpress rebooked all Aug departures for this resort because their rep went down and said it is still in shambles and is no where near their projected opening date of July 26 and they dont think it would be ready until the fall. I am freaking out because my Husband and I are booked thru apple for 8/26-9/2. I called my travel agent and she is reaching out to Apple and will get back to me. I may wind up booking another resort for the same time period. I am sooo bummed. Anyone with Aug or early sept departures should make inquiries now rather than get "bumped" at the last minute to a resort that may not be of your choosing.

I am a Travel agent and I am traveling there on July 29. I've contacted Applevacation a week ago and, so far, there is no warnings on the delay of grand opening. Applevac. booking GS for the whole Aug. Keeping my fingers crosed.
