calling all locals - has anyone been by it to see what it looks like?

I hate looking at computer generated photos.

Also, where exactly is it located? Does anyone know what two resorts it is in between so i can get a better idea where it is at.

Thanks.

Thinking about this resort as well (or ABR).

Take a look at

locogringo.com/maps/tour/xaac-aerial-t.html

if you want to see the XAAC Bay before the resort was built. Just south of AKUMAL

Checked that out late last night.

We stayed at ABR in Spring 2004. Loved it. If you choose ABR you will be very happy. Granted, not posh, but clean, small , friendly and so relaxing.

I have been looking at this hotel as well for our 20th anniversary getaway. For anyone who has looked at the pictures of the hotel, what other hotels would you compare it to? We have been to 5 all-inclusive properties in the Riviera Maya. Some were o.k. an some were fabulous.

Does anyone know if the beaches in this region are good or excellent? Beach is a priority for us.

Hi Survivor4!!!

So far what we know is that it is in the outskirts of Akumal. As we all know the beaches in Akumal are beautiful and some of the best for snorkeling. Here is a link that shows you the beach that it is situated on:

locogringo.com/maps/tour/xaac-aerial-t.html

The main cove is where the first resort will be located. From pictures of the resort, the impression I get is that the resort will be very contemporary in design, sleek, glass etc. It will not have a mexican flavour or vibe. The ammenities seem to rival all the 5 to 6 star resorts in the Mayan and it will offer the international liquors and a variety of a la cartes. Here is another link, not sure if you have seen these pictures:

itmco.com/riviera-maya-sun-coast/hotels/gran…

And ofcourse there is the official website, with the 3 page brochure:

http://www.sirenishotels.com/

Click on the info Mayan Riviera, right hand side of page.

If I find anything else I will post. And just an FYI, I waited to book and lost my deal, Wed I could have booked for $2200, last night when I went to book the price had increased by $800.00!!!! So grab it while you can.

Cheers...............................................................LD

Hi. I booked aug 26 thru Sept 2 at a great deal. 960 pp + tax (Flight inc) BUT I also bought travel insurance that lets me cancel/change for any reason. My travel agent is going down next week to check it out. If it seems like things are progressing smoothly for the July Opening- I will keep the booking. If not- Im switching to Palladium and paying the difference. I have been to Playa Xaac prior to this developement-its breathtaking. And in terms of it location, its just south of the Palladium Resort and just north of Akumal. I will be there for anniversary/B-day celebration. Maybe We'll run into Sharkee. I booked the Palladium when it had just opened and got a Great Deal as well. When this place gets running- its gonna be PRICEY!!!!

for a look at the area prior to development, go to the loco gringo site and find Xaac bay. Click on the words Xaac bay and get a little bit of an overview. Or google Xaac (pronounced SHAHK) bay and you'll find that this is the place that local catamaran day cruises would go for a secluded snorkle and picnic day trip. Very nice. I'm booking $1930 plus tax (165) for 2 weeks in mid December from Vancouver.
