We are going to Sri Lanka next year and staying at The Club Hotel Dolphin. I have a big fear of Snakes and if i see one i think i would freak out completley. I wish i could get over this fear, but i cant. Can anyone please tell me if the place is crawling with them? Are they in the Hotel grounds and hanging from the trees? My Husband tells me they are but i think he's trying to scare me!!! Can anyone please tell me if they have seen any and please be truthful.

Thanks.

Hi SnorkelQueen

Snakes?

I have been to Sri Lanka many times now, and..... yes, i have seen ONE in a hotel garden,i am like you and can't stand the sight of them, even on TV, and yes, i moved VERY sharply in the opposite direction of it as you can imagine.

Then one of the pool attendants, calmy walked up to it, picked it up and helped it on it's way away from the guests.

So, yes, there is some, but don't panic ok, the ones you "may" come across in hotel grounds, are NOT dangerous, and will be more frightened of you, then you will of them.

The place will NOT be crawling with them, so don't worry ok.

Regards

Dave

Hi Snorkelqueen,

To further reduce your fear we second our junior expert again'.

Yes, at rare occasions I've seen snakes in the lowland grounds, including hotel gardens at times. But never threatening for humans - the ones living there are generally reptile-eating and non-agressive, though they might be poisonous to some extent. In the higher altitudes, and of course in all nature reserves, you find more of them but even then as long as you stick to roads and concrete paths you should always be safe!

All the best,

<Erik> & [Sandya]

Thank you for the quick responces, im still very worried though, its been a big fear of mine all my life. I dont want to be on holiday and constantly looking out for them.

I read a review some time back which had photographs included and this young chap had one very large snake drapped around his neck, i couldnt look at the photograph once i realised what it was.

Thanks again.

Hi SnorkelQueen7,

I've just read "Traveller Guy's" reply to your message and its pretty bad news about the snakes isn't it!!!! I don't mind snakes but not if they're hanging from trees etc...By the way my husband and I are going in Feb. When are you going?

I wouldnt worry too much about them though SnorkelQueen - they wont harm you-they'll probably just be minding their own business!! I'll definitely let you know how we get on..

By the way, if you're scared of other creepy-crawlies - i would strongly advise you do not go to Mombasa-although its beautiful.

Hi Desi-girl.

The only fear i have is Snakes, other things dont bother me. Ive swam with Sharks and String Rays with no fear. So any other places with wild animals and creepy crawleys would most probably be ok.

Thanks again.

Desi, Snorkel

You have NO reason to be worried ok, no, there will NOT be snakes hanging from trees, and as i said, they will be MORE worried about you, so please don't let these "stories" worry you and spoil your holiday ok.
