We are visiting Waynesville for the first time for a family reunion (ages 7 to 52). Where are the best places to white water raft, hike, horseback ride, to see fireworks on the 4th etc? Need all the help we can get since none of us have been to the smokies yet. Thanks!

Waynesville is close to some of the best views from the Blue Ridge Parkway, to cultural events at Cherokee, to canoeing or rafting on the French Broad or rafting on the Nantahala, good fishing on the Tuckasegee, good horseback riding at Pisgah View Ranch or Sandy Bottom near Marshall, within 45 minutes of the Biltmore Estate and shopping in Asheville, lots of good golf, gem mining, etc. Short of a 5 course epicurean meal, there is something for everyone .

For rafting checkout NOC rafting. Also go to sliding rock in the pisgah forest
