traditional guesthouses?

hi... i am thinking of spending a night or two in yangzhou and am wondering if there are any small, more traditional type of inns / guesthouses - something that would be the chinese version of a "pensione"; or are these found primarily in larger cities? thanks.

Sounds like those would be much more easily found in places like Lijiang and Yangshuo. Not Yangzhou nor the major cities.

yangzhou or yangshuo? Noting that Yangzhou is north of shanghai and yangshuo is near guilin.

If you mean Yangshuo then I agree with elysee. But there are heaps of smaller hotels in Yangshuo that might fit your bill - cheap, clean and cheerful and around the 200+ rmb mark.

Both are on waterways. Yangzhou is on the Grand Canal, Yangshuo is on the Li River.
