Hiking to the wild horse sanctuary

Is it possible to hike up the beach from Corolla to the wild horse area? If so, how far would it be? We would like to go to spend the day, not just two hours.

It's only a mile or so from Corolla Village (near the lighthouse) to the end of the road where the horse fence is. The horses roam freely on the north side of the fence, so you could walk for a good while and still not see them. Also, you would pass a whole lot of people driving or parked on the beach, so it's not really a quiet nature walk :) So the answer to your question is yes, but not recommended.

If you are looking for something different, try exploring the nature preserve on the sound side north of Corolla village. It's where the road makes a sharp right, just before the pavement ends. A nice walk, and very cool.
