restaurant to celebrate 8 year old's bday

We are traveling to Charlotte/Concord in July with 3 children, 4, 7 and 10. St5aying at the Great Wolf Lodge. Our daughter turns 8 while we are there. We planned to go to Discovery Place on Sat. afternoon and then go to dinner to celebrate her 8th birthday. Should we go to a chain like Cheesecake Factory or PF Changs or would you recommend a local restaurant. All 3 kids are wonderful eaters and don't order the typical kids foods. Thanks for your help!

There are countless restaurants by the Great Wolf Lodge...wide variety. Most are chains, but some are interesting. Quaker Steak and Lube is across the street and has a stock car feel to it, and food is OK as well...kids might like it. Also in the very near area are Mexican, Cajun, Ribs, Italian, every fast food you can think of, Hooters, Sushi, steak, pub-food, blues and BBQ, and on and on...this is all near Great Wolf and the Concord Mills Mills.

Thanks so much for the info. Would you recommend a specific sushi restaurant and an Italian restaurant in the Concord area?

Tsunami is decent and is actually w/in walking distance to Great Wolf. It's not world class, but not bad either. For Italian, you have your basic Carraba's and Olive Garden w/in 1/4 mile of Great Wolf. About a 7 mile or so drive in downtown Historic Concord (Union Street) is an upscale Italian (sorry, can't think of name), but something like Giovani's (Trattoria or something). Not a chain, nice atmosphere and Historic district is great. If I come up w/ the name, I'll post again.

Destination Expert   What's this?
for North Carolina

I have grandchildren those ages and they all love the Japanese steakhouses e.g. Ichibon, Kanki, etc. I don't know what they might have there but I suspect there is one nearby. Most have a sushi bar as well.

Thanks for your input. We tried to avoid chain restaurants when traveling. We live in an area where the restaurants depend on tourist dollars so we try to to eat at local restaurants where we are visiting.

Great Wolf is between Concord Mills and the Speedway. Just about every restaurant there is a chain. Tsunami is not. Here are a few more local restaurants that are not chains, but a few miles a away...Bombay Cuisine (Indian in the University area), Bio M Bos (Mexican..George W. Liles pkwy), Max's Alley (steak, seafood, pasta, etc..), The Ibis (Carribean, Historic District). Now, for real old school, local Concord, Troutman's BBQ and What-A-Burger near Historic district. There are several little sandwich shops, coffee, ice cream, and few restaurants in downtown Concord on Union Street worth checking out if you have time. About a 15 minute drive from Speedway Blvd.
