Visiting in October

I was wondering if we can plan on catching some foliage the 2nd week of October. We'll be in that area for a couple of days as part of our motorcycle ride from Daytona Beach through SC, VA, NC, and TN.

Any recommendations on "must do" thing for restaurants/hotels and sights would be greatly appreciated.

You should have good color then. Ride the Blue Ridge Parkway. Eat at Daniel Boone Inn. Best wishes.

I agree with the color, depending on where you are and how your luck holds out. Where exactly are you planning to visit? That information would help us recommend "must do's" to visit.

Not sure which part of TN you'll be driving through, but there is a Cranberry Festival in the area of Mountain City, TN

Shady Valley, Tennessee

You should see good color the 2nd week of October. The higher elevation of course, the better. I have always loved getting on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Boone and driving towards Asheville. Some great views. We like to go to Linville Falls for a side trip. (short hike down to the falls, a little longer hike up to a viewing point high above the falls), and in the fall the color is breath-taking. It's free. Also, for a fee and if you like this kind of thing, Grandfather Mountain lets you feed the bears, see cougar, deer, other animals, and has a mile high swinging bridge that's pretty neat. Great views there also. Have fun!

Wow! Thanks for all the info. This is why I swear by Tripadvisor!

Here's the itinerary: 10/7 Charleston SC, 10/8&9 Maggie Valley NC, 10/10&11 Blacksburg VA, 10/12 Blowing Rock, 10/13&14 Knoxville (tickets to a show at the bijou 10/14), 10/15&16 Chattanooga, 10/17 Pine Mountain GA (callaway gardens), 10/18 Valdosta GA and home on 10/19.

We can't hike due to my very recent knee replacement. That will have to wait for next year. But you can see that we are hitting the Blue Ridge Parkway some and have planned our ride to go one route out to Blacksburg (south) from Maggie Valley and another through TN over to Chattanooga (north) then down through GA to get home to Daytona Beach.

Again, thanks for all your time. We love the blues and folk-type songwriter bands, a true locally owned fun place to eat/drink and we love nothing more than a good old dive bar!

Also, if you go to www.grandfather.com you can see day by day photos of what the area around Grandfather Mountain looks like. Only 5 to 10 percent of the leaves have changed as of now, but it's still beautiful.
