Is this US or European dating< i.e. April 7th or July 4th?

For July 4th, no.

For April 7th, depends. What is your definition of "too cold"?

Upstate NY can be strange. A couple years ago, it was in the low 60's on 4th of July. Generally, I would expect Watkins Glen to be in the 80's on July 4. However, just know that pretty much any campground in the area is going to be crowded for the holiday.

We've had a couple of cool, wet summers over the past couple of decades (I remember one work golf tourney in late june twenty years ago where coffee was far more popular than beer), but that's really rare.

Average temp range for WG on July 4 is 82/57. 8 years ago the record low, 42, was set. I'm struggling to remember that year, I vaguely recall it was a below average summer for us.

I can relate to concerns (in Sep '06 we camped in Utah, records overnight lows were being set and I only brought a 40deg bag), but July is probably the least changeable month around here.

If you're having problems booking at Watkins Glen, keep in mind Taughannock Falls and Robert Treman state parks also have camping (I believe Buttermilk Falls does, also), they're about 30m away and well worth it.

you can book online at all new york state parks. july 4 is swiming weather almost always. there is always a chance of cooler weather, but not too cold to camp. watkins glen is awesome. if u get rain u can drive to corning to see the glass museum. or go winery hopping. taughannack (sp?) has cayuga lakefront cabins for "camping" but i'd guess they are booked already for this year.

Hello,

We are looking at travelling to Watkin's Glan for the April 20-21st weekend.

We are used to cold weather in Canada and have a pop-up trailer.

Would it be a good idea to camp? Or would we freeze?

Thanks.

You may be better off starting a new thread for this, but if this helps...

I'd say 50/50 for decent weather. Spring is being delayed up here, apparently, but it can change for the better at any time.

Are you aware that the gorge trail will still be closed at the time you'll be there?
