I am thinking of staying in Mahebourg in Sept 07, please can I have some feedback on the area, prices for eating out etc , have never been to Mauritius before and have been offered a reasonable deal to stay self catering in a flat on the outskirts of town with access to a car.

you definitely need the car as Mahebourg is a bit quiet . Not many modern shops or restaurants that I can remember. Did self catering a few years ago at Blue Bay near maheboug and not much to do. Drove around quite a lot; up east coast and south and west. Good luck!

Be careful Mauritiustay - while parts of both your posts are helpful, parts are getting very close to advertising/soliciting for business, which is not allowed on this forum.

I think I am being misunderstood. I am just a citizen of Mauritius who is happy to help and give ideas to visitor to have a more enjoyable stay.

Thank you for your message but I am renting my apartment from a Mauritian natural and am hiring a car also. Does any one have any recomendations for restaurants in and around this area?Plus a rough guide for two course meal with wine would be helpful.

I honestly cant remember any restaurants aroud Mahebourg, as we self-catered. The town was quite small and had limited shopping; i.e no big supermarkets. No restaurants that I can remember seeing, although you might try the local hotels restaurants. blue Bay, although food not good, Shandrani, a bit further out nearer airport, and another one which changed its name that looks nice.

You will be in a part of Mauritius not too geared towards Tourists as much as other parts.

There are tourist attractions there such as La Vanille wildlife park, the village of Mahebourg is quaint, there are natural wonders such as the recently discovered coloured earth type attraction but you will need to travel for a decent meal out etc IMHO.
