Where have you been?? Just kidding - traveling around the world, I'm sure! .....The AFB was closed years ago....the area took a big hit economically and otherwise. If you're going to visit, check out the Thirsty Turtle - nice bar, "on the pond" - that's Lake Champlain, in case you forget! Also, if you like Wine, there's a nice Wine Bar / Restaurant downtown (I forget the name) , near the DMV....at least it was there 3 years ago! I haven't been there in a while either!

Plattsburgh AFB closed in June 1995

The Monopole is still around hanging on by a few threads. It's been totally taken over by college students and the owner has not taken care of the place at all. But it is still there, and they still have bands play. The Air Base closed years ago as you saw in the other posts, but the economy has rebounded tremendously over the past handfull of years. Plattsburgh is growing dramatically. As one other person said, the Turtle is a great bar to go to in the summer, but it's called the 'Naked Turtle'. The turtle is right down at the boat dock on the water front and has a huge wrap around deck with a bar inside and outside. This is their website... www.nakedturtle.net.

Yes, Plattsburgh is growing rapidly. A national airport will be built at the old Air Force Base. When the aiprort is completed Nascar plans to take over the small commuter airport. Downtown is starting to update it olds buildings. The Mayors Cup is a big event that is held for a week starting the 4th of July, free to the public. Plattsburgh has all the conveniences you will ever need. Yet you can live in the green countryside of lakes, stream and mountains. The farmlands are beautiful. Great place to raise children. Our campground is one of many parks in this area. Do stop by this year and "Camp With Champ". Champ is our Loc Ness Monster that is said by legands that dwells in Lake Champlain.
