Either by bus or taxi, both of which will be at the ferry port when your ferry docks.
Thank you big snitch for your reply. Can you tell me how much:
A taxi should cost and also how much the bus costs?
Would it be difficult to get on the bus with a suitcase each - I am sure the bus will be packed .
Not sure how much a taxi would cost, but it's not that far from Athinios to Fira so I guess in the region of €15-€20 - maybe someone else will know better.
Here's a link to the bus company website, showing a fare of €2.20 per person between Fira and Athinios.

The buses have plenty of luggage space - they're like the National Express type coaches we have in the UK (I assume you have similar in Ireland) - and in early June they shouldn't be too busy, I guess it depends on how many people from the ferry need the bus rather than a taxi or transfer service.
Thank you both for info - it is great to have an idea before we arrive
We just did this today, arriving from Iraklion by the Hellenic high speed ferry. So a word of warning -
The atmosphere at the port where you arrive is very cutthroat. So be assertive and also decisive.
The local buses are very nice and new,but service is irregular. There were only a few of us on the morning ferry so our wait was over an hour till the next ferry arrived.
We rented a van instead with another couple (25eu for 4) but a taxi driver showed up and wanted to take us instead, and the other company let him bully them into agreeing. We unhappily went with him and our worst fears were realized when he dumped us on Fira, far from our hotel, threw our bags on the ground, and refused to give us directions to our hotel.
Based on the unreliability of the local bus service and local taxis, I would highly suggest contacting your hotel and arranging for a pickup off the ferry.
But Santorini is wonderful, and we found the people in town to be far nicer than the folk down at the dock. Good luck!
Another way is to book a pre-arranged transfer. There are plenty of firms offering them, google santorini transfers. I have used santoriinitransfer.com and for €8 per person you will be collected direct from your ferry and dropped off at your hotel. It's more expensive than the bus and cheaper than taxi, but you will be met off the ferry by someone holding a board with your name. It's quicker and more comfortable and you don't have to indulge in the unholy scrum to either try and get on a packed bus or trying to secure a taxi, especially if you are unfamiliar with Santorini.
I have sent a thank you message to you both, but it has not been posted - maybe it just takes time ? Anyway , I appreciate all your information. Thank You.
